MADISON, WI - Enduring their longest weekend of the season, the women's tennis team traveled to Rockford, Illinois, to compete in the Midwest Conference Team Championship on Friday, October 11th. After claiming third place in the team competition, they then continued on to Madison, Wisconsin, where they mustered up another impressive effort in the individual championships on Saturday and Sunday (October 12-13th).

One of only four schools to qualify for the prestigious MWC Team Championship, Lake Forest completed its season earning a third place finish in the ten-team conference. Entering the tournament as the South Division's top seed, the Foresters ran into a tough Ripon squad in the first match of the day, eventually falling to the Redhawks 5-0.

Rather than surrender, the Foresters set their sights on Grinnell College where they had a chance to avenge an earlier loss to their South Division rival. Leading the way for the Foresters was sophomore Maren Haag (Moraga, CA/Campolindo) who returned to action for the first time since being injured October 1st. Haag contributed with wins at number four singles (6-1, 6-1) and number two doubles (7-5, 6-2), where she partnered with freshman Brittany Richardson (Little Rock, AR/Central).  Also victorious for Lake Forest was the number three doubles team of senior Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL/Granite City) and freshman Shannon Pyle (Chatham, IL/ Glenwood), winning in straight sets (6-4, 6-3).

In the doubles competition on Saturday, all three of the Forester's entries won at least one match.  The team of Slater and Pyle advanced all the way to the semi-finals before being eliminated by the eventual champion.  The number one team, of freshman Courtney Livingston (Skokie, IL/Niles West) and senior captain Angie Kral (Brookfield, WI/Central), and the number two team, of Richardson and Haag, each rebounded from a first round lost to win the consolation championship.

In Sunday's singles competition, five players reached the semi-finals, with three advancing to the final match and two securing conference titles. In just her first year at Lake Forest, Richardson claimed her title at number two singles, making her the first Forester to win at that position since 1984 (Carolyn Guip). Without dropping a single set along the way, she eventually wrapped up the title with a 6-0, 7-5 victory in the finals. Junior Abbey Jennings (Logan, OH/ Logan), also in her first season with the Foresters, won her title at number six singles. Her road was a bit more treacherous as she withstood a three set semi-final before winning the finals (6-3, 7-6 (7-3)). Haag also advanced to the semi-final match.

In the final match of her career, senior captain Jackie Pieczkiewicz (Grayslake, IL/Grayslake) advanced to the final match at number five singles, adding three more single victories to her school record along the way. She finishes her career with 52 wins and a winning percentage of .788. Fellow senior, Angie Kral played herself into the semi-final before being eliminated. Thanks in part to a tremendous final season (20 wins), Kral finished her career tied for second place on Lake Forest's all-time combined win list with 75 victories.

The Foresters' 12 wins were good for number two on the school's all-time list, only one behind the 1999 MWC Champions.
