Lake Forest fell at each of the three doubles positions and number four and five singles against St. Norbert. Sophomore Molly Stapleton (St. Louis Park, Minn./Saint Louis Park) had won the first set at number three singles when the match ended as the Green Knights clinched the victory with their fifth team point. Senior Alli Berry (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) and junior Anne Demere (Savannah, Ga./Saint Vincent's Academy) won 8-5 at number one doubles against Carroll and Berry was also victorious (8-2) at the top spot in the singles lineup. The Lady Pioneers prevailed at the other two doubles positions as well as numbers two, four, and five singles. Berry and Demere defeated Carroll’s top team 6-1, 6-3 in Saturday’s number one doubles tournament before falling in the quarterfinals to the eventual conference champs. Stapleton and freshman Iona O’Donnell (Nottingham, England/Dundle School) won 6-3, 6-3 against Monmouth College and 7-5, 6-1 over St. Norbert to reach the semifinals at number two. At number three freshman Natalie Atroshenko (Wheeling, Ill./Buffalo Grove) and sophomore Hayley Roberts (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) recorded a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Monmouth before falling in the quarterfinals. Berry recorded 6-3, 6-3 triumphs over the top player from Carroll and Grinnell to advance to the number one singles championship match, where she fell 6-3, 6-2 to the best from Beloit College. Stapleton won 6-1, 6-2 against Lawrence University and 7-5, 6-2 over St. Norbert at number three singles before dropping a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Carroll in the semifinals. O’Donnell lost in the first round to Grinnell at number four singles but won 10-6 over Illinois College and 10-8 against Lawrence in the consolation championship at number four. At number six freshman Lauren Stroner (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) won 6-3, 6-3 over Carroll but fell to the eventual champion in the semifinals. Lake Forest earned 40 points on the weekend, the fifth-highest total in the league. The Foresters, however, claim fourth place based on their finish in Friday’s team tournament.
