Madison, Wis. - The Forester women’s tennis team finished third at the Midwest Conference Tournament for the second straight year and among the league’s top three for the ninth consecutive season. Lake Forest fell 5-1 to St. Norbert College Friday (October 13) morning before rebounding for a 5-4 victory over Beloit College in the third-place match that afternoon. The team finished the season with a 6-5 record. Tournaments at each of the three doubles positions in the lineup were played on Saturday (October 14) and the singles competition occurred on Sunday (October 15).

St. Norbert took two of the three doubles matches from the Foresters and claimed each of the bottom three positions in the singles lineup. Lake Forest’s only victory of the match came at number two doubles, where senior Kendal Wapotish (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) and sophomore Jaime Jackson (Milwaukee, Wisc./Divine Savior-Holy Angels) combined to win 6-4, 6-1.

The Foresters won at the other two doubles spots against Beloit. Junior Alli Berry (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) and senior Anastasia Rudkovskaya (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) prevailed 8-6 at number one and freshman Molly Stapleton (St. Louis Park, Minn./Saint Louis Park) teamed with sophomore Anne Demere (Savannah, Ga./Saint Vincent's Academy) for a win by the same score at number three.

Berry also won 8-0 at number one singles and Wapotish triumphed 8-1 at number four. Freshman Anna Mahar’s (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) battle at number six was the last match on the court and her 9-7 victory decided the contest.

Berry and Rudkovskaya reached the semifinals in Saturday’s number one doubles tourney before falling to the eventual champions. Jackson and Wapotish lost to the eventual runners-up in the quarterfinals at number two before winning the consolation bracket. Demere and Stapleton reached the semifinals at number three before being ousted.

On Sunday, Berry, Rudkovskaya, and Wapotish each advanced to Sunday’s singles semifinals before dropping matches at numbers one, three, and four, respectively. Stapleton and Mahar each fell in her first match at numbers five and six, respectively, but came back to win the consolation bracket.
