WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM FINISHES IN THE UPPER HALF OF MWC
The Lake Forest College women's tennis team capped off a year of improvement with a fifth place finish at the Midwest Conference tournament, held in Madison, WI over the weekend.  The Foresters finished with 33 points, while conference champion Grinnell College finished with 81 points to edge out Beloit College (80 points).
Co-captains Renee Bojrab, a senior, and Elizabeth King, a junior, teamed up at No. 3 doubles to record the highest finish by a Lake Forest competitor.  The duo was handed their first conference loss of the season in the championship match by Grinnell (6-1, 6-4).  Head Coach Chris Pier commented, "Our doubles teams played well, as I expected them too.  It was a great finish for Renee and Elizabeth at No. 3 and a great way for Renee to close out her college career."
The No. 2 doubles unit of freshman Jamie Irons and sophomore Shannon Sobieski lost in the semi-finals to earn 6 points for Lake Forest.
During singles play on Sunday, the Foresters played primarily on the consolation side of the bracket.  Sobieski and junior Valerie Bozich won the consolation bracket at No. 2 and No. 6, respectively.  King won her first 2 matches before falling to the eventual champion in the semi-finals.  Coach Pier added, "For the most part I was pleased with our performances.  Shannon played well and Elizabeth stepped up her performance for the second year in the row at the conference tournament.  It was a big step for our program to finish in the top 5 at conference."
