MADISON, WI - The Forester women's tennis team concluded its 2003 season this weekend (October 18-19) at the Midwest Conference Doubles (Saturday) and Singles (Sunday) Championship Tournaments. Lake Forest had already defeated Ripon College 5-4 and Grinnell College by the same score to win the team championship tournament on Friday (October 17).

On Saturday, freshmen Greer Stenberg (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth) and Madeline Harris (Wooster, OH/Wooster) won their first-round match at number one doubles before defaulting in round two. Sophomore Brittany Richardson (Little Rock, AR/Central) and freshman Anastasia Rudkovskaya (Buffalo Grove, IL/Buffalo Grove) teamed up at number two singles and advanced to the semifinals before falling to the eventual champions.

Lake Forest's next championship of the weekend came at number three doubles. Freshmen Kendal Wapotish (McHenry, IL/McHenry) and Emily Bell (Chicago, IL/San Francisco Univ. H.S.), the number four seeds at the position, won in straight sets in the quarterfinals and in three sets in both the semifinals and the championship match. Including their two victories on Friday, the duo was 5-0 on the weekend.

In Sunday's singles tournaments, Stenberg reached the semifinals before defaulting at number one. Richardson advanced to the finals but was unable to defend her championship at number two. Rudkovskaya won her first-round match at number three singles but lost in round two. Sophomore Jill Chudacoff (Highland Park, IL/Highland Park) recorded a pair of victories at number four before falling in three sets in the championship. At number five, Harris reached the semifinals but lost to the Grinnell player she defeated in the deciding match of the team championship on Friday.

Senior Abbey Jennings (Logan, OH/Logan) was able to defend her conference title at number six singles. In the semifinals she eliminated the Ripon player who, on Friday, handed Jennings the only loss in 19 career matches at the position.

Wapotish and Bell became the sixth doubles team in school history to win a conference championship. Jennings became the fourth player to win a title two consecutive years. Lake Forest has had at least one championship each of the last five seasons.
