Brittany Richardson reached the championship at number two singles for the third straight year.
MADISON, WI - The Lake Forest College women’s tennis team defeated Beloit College, the Midwest Conference North Division’s top seed, 5-1 in the semifinals of the MWC Team Championship Tournament Friday (October 15) at Boylan High School in Rockford, Illinois. The Foresters were unable to successfully defend their 2003 crown, though, falling 5-2 that afternoon to Grinnell College in this year’s title match. The team finished the year with a 12-5 overall record.

All three Lake Forest doubles teams defeated their Beloit counterparts. Freshman Alli Berry (Plymouth, MN/Robbinsdale Armstrong) and junior Brittany Richardson (Little Rock, AR/Central) triumphed 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4 at number one. Sophomores Anastasia Rudkovskaya (Buffalo Grove, IL/Buffalo Grove) and Kendal Wapotish (McHenry, IL/McHenry) teamed up for a 6-2, 6-3 victory at number two and junior Jill Chudacoff (Highland Park, IL/Highland Park) joined freshman Jaime Jackson (Miwaukee, WI/Divine Savior-Holy Angels) for a 6-3, 6-2 win at number three. Chudacoff (6-1, 6-0) and Jackson (6-1, 6-2) also won at numbers three and six singles, respectively, to close out the match.

Berry and Richardson were again victorious at number one doubles (6-2, 6-2) against Grinnell, as were Rudkovskaya and Wapotish at number two (6-2, 6-0). Rudkovskaya was also ahead by a set at number four singles, as was Jackson at number six, when the Pioneers recorded their fifth point to end the match.

On Saturday (October 16), all 10 teams in the league gathered in Madison, Wisconsin, for the doubles tournaments. Berry and Richardson won twice before falling in the championship match at number one and Rudkovskaya and Wapotish also placed second at number two. Chudacoff and Jackson reached the semifinals at number three.

In Sunday’s (October 17) singles tournaments, Brittany Richardson, Jill Chudacoff, and Jaime Jackson were the runners-up at numbers two, three, and six, respectively. Both Chudacoff and Jackson knocked off their position’s top seed in the semifinals, where Berry finally was eliminated at number one. Rudkovskaya won and Wapotish lost in the consolation finals at numbers four and five, respectively.

Though their second-place finish was decided in Friday’s team tournament, the Foresters also earned the second-highest point total (62) in the doubles and singles tourneys. Grinnell scored the most with 102 and St. Norbert College’s 46 points were next after Lake Forest.
