Foresters Headed to MWC Team Tourney after Claiming Two of Three
Lake Forest wins at Monmouth and Knox, falls at Grinnell

Grinnell, Iowa - The Lake Forest College women’s tennis team qualified for the program’s eighth consecutive trip to the four-team Midwest Conference Championship Tournament by claiming two of three MWC South Division matches over the weekend (October 7-8). The Foresters prevailed 5-4 at Monmouth College and 7-2 at Knox College on Saturday before falling 8-1 at Grinnell College on Sunday. Lake Forest is now 5-3 overall this season and finished divisional play with a 3-1 mark.

Monmouth claimed two of Saturday morning’s three doubles matches. The lone Lake Forest victory was recorded by freshman Molly Stapleton (St. Louis Park, Minn./Saint Louis Park) and sophomore Anne Demere (Savannah, Ga./Saint Vincent's Academy) at number three (8-2).

Senior Anastasia Rudkovskaya (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number three singles and classmate Kendal Wapotish (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) prevailed 6-4, 6-3 at number four. Freshman Anna Mahar (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) cruised to victory at number six without surrendering a game. With two matches on the court and the Foresters leading the match 4-3, junior Alli Berry (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) closed out Monmouth’s top player 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 to clinch the match for the visitors.

Lake Forest won at all three doubles positions at Knox. Berry and Rudkovskaya triumphed 8-6 at number one, Wapotish and sophomore Jaime Jackson (Milwaukee, Wisc./Divine Savior-Holy Angels) recorded an 8-3 victory at number two, and Stapleton and Demere prevailed 8-5 at number three.

The Foresters were also successful at the top four singles positions. Berry did not lose a game at number one and the victory gave her a school record 29 career victories at the top singles spot in the lineup. Jackson prevailed 6-4, 6-2 at number two, Rudkovskaya recorded a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number three, and Wapotish won 6-0, 6-2 at number four. The team’s victory clinched a berth in the MWC Tourney.

Lake Forest’s only victory Sunday at Grinnell came at number three doubles, where Stapleton and Demere completed their 3-0 weekend with an 8-5 triumph.

The Foresters will take on North Division champion St. Norbert College in Friday’s (October 13) semifinals. The match will begin at 8:00 a.m. St. Norbert edged out Lake Forest 5-4 earlier in the season. The winner will face the winner of Grinnell College and Beloit College for the league title. Individual singles tournaments will be played on Saturday (October 14) and the doubles competition will be held on Sunday (October 15).
