September 3, 2003 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID New-Look Foresters Start Off on High Note
Eight Foresters recorded their first win of the 2003 season led by freshman Greer Stenberg (Cape Elizabeth, ME) at number one singles. Stenberg's start marked the fourth time in four years the Foresters opened the season with a new number one and she did not disappoint. Playing her first collegiate match, Stenberg proved the future of Forester tennis looks bright, consistently tracking down tough shots enroute to a decisive 6-4, 6-2 victory. Fresh off a season which saw her lock up the conference championship at number two singles, sophomore Brittany Richardson (Little Rock, AR/Central) picked up where she left off contributing a win at number two doubles (7-6(7-1), 6-4) with new teammate freshman Madeline Harris (Wooster, OH). The Foresters' other returning MWC champion, senior Abbey Jennings (Logan, OH/Logan), got off on the right foot with her victory at number six singles (6-1, 6-1). Rounding out the scoring for Lake Forest were junior Maren Haag (Moraga, CA/Campolindo), freshmen Emily Bell (Chicago, IL) and Kendal Wapotish (McHenry, IL) at number three doubles (7-5, 6-0), and sophomore Jill Chudacoff (Highland Park, IL) at number four singles (6-0, 6-1) Lake Forest will put their perfect record on the line Tuesday (September 9th), when they host a non-conference match versus Augustana College. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. The Foresters then begin Midwest Conference play on Saturday (September 13th) when they travel to DePere, Wisconsin, to take on St. Norbert College at 12:00pm.
