WOMEN'S TENNIS SECURES SOUTH'S TOP SEED
In the inaugural year of a Midwest Conference Team Championship Tournament, the Lake Forest women's tennis team will be the South Division's top seed. Three wins in two days, each over a fellow South Division team, wrapped up a perfect regular season divisional record for the Foresters and ensured them a number one seed in the four-team championship tournament on October 15th in Madison, WI. Additionally, the Foresters have yet to lose a match under first-year Head Coach Chris Conger. Lake Forest is 5-0 to the start the season. In contrast, last year's team started the season 0-5.
The Foresters cruised to victories over Knox (7-2) and Illinois College (9-0) over the weekend, and battled for a 5-4 advantage over Grinnell on Saturday. Junior Shannon Sobieski's (Fox Point, WI/Nicolet High School) three-set (2-6, 6-2, 6-1) come-from-behind victory at No. 2 singles was a critical match, according to Conger, "Shannon showed great resilience by coming back after losing the first set." Sobieski's match was the only match to go three sets.
One week into the season, Conger is pleased with the progress of his young team; "We are truly a 'team'. Our biggest strength is definitely our depth. We have six or seven women who can go out and get points for us." The Foresters regular singles' line-up is composed of one senior, two juniors, two sophomores, and a freshman.
