Foresters Stay Perfect in 2002
Defeat Mount Mary College 6-2 at home

Head Coach Chris Conger
Sophomore Maren Haag comes back to win #3 singles in three games.
LAKE FOREST, IL - In an attempt to stay perfect through the early stages of the 2002 season, the Lake Forest College women's tennis had their hands full with undefeated Mount Mary College (3-0) coming to town. Continuing their dominant play, the Foresters sent their opponent home with their first loss of the season and their own flawless record intact.

Leading the way for Lake Forest was sophomore Maren Haag (Moraga, CA/Campolindo) at number three singles.  Overcoming a difficult first game, Haag turned things around in dramatic fashion and closed out the match in three games (0-6, 6-2, 6-1).  The victory marked her fourth of the season in as many chances.  Also contributing for the Foresters was freshman Shannon Pyle (Chatham, IL/ Glenwood) who came away victorious in both of her matches.  Pyle triumphed at number five singles (7-5, 6-0) and number three doubles (8-0) where she was partnered with senior Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL/Granite City).  Freshman Ashley Wiegner (Langhorne, PA/The Hill School) also added a win to the scoring column in her first collegiate match.  Wiegner won number six singles in straight sets (6-1, 6-0).

The Foresters play host to defending Midwest Conference Champion Beloit College on Thursday (September 19th).  The match will begin at 3:00 p.m. behind the Sports Center.  Lake Forest will then hit the road for three conference matches in two days.  On Saturday (September 21) the Foresters open with Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois at 11:30 a.m.  They will then make the 15-mile drive to Monmouth, Illinois where they will face Monmouth College at 2:30 p.m.  Lake Forest will finish up with Grinnell College on Sunday (September 22) in Monmouth, Illinois.  That match is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
