Foresters Win Two of Three Matches Against MWC South Foes
Team defeats Monmouth and Knox, falls to Grinnell

MONMOUTH, IL - The Forester women’s tennis team won Midwest Conference South Division matches at Monmouth College and Knox College on Saturday (September 18). Both victories were by a 7-2 margin. Lake Forest was defeated 9-0 by fellow divisional foe Grinnell College at Monmouth on Sunday (September 19). Monmouth and Knox also fell 9-0 to Grinnell on Saturday. The Foresters are now 5-3 overall this season and 2-1 in divisional play. Monmouth is now 0-4 and Knox 3-4 overall. Both teams fell to 0-2 in the MWC. Grinnell clinched the South’s top seed with a 4-0 record within the division. The Pioneers are 7-1 overall.

Lake Forest won two of three doubles matches and five of six in singles against Monmouth. The number one doubles team of freshman Alli Berry (Plymouth, MN/Robbinsdale Armstrong) and sophomore Anastasia Rudkovskaya (Buffalo Grove, IL/Buffalo Grove) and the number two team of junior Brittany Richardson (Little Rock, AR/Central) and sophomore Kendal Wapotish (McHenry, IL/McHenry) each triumphed 8-0. Berry won 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-1) at number one singles, Richardson prevailed 6-2, 7-5 at number two, and Rudkovskaya claimed a 7-6 (9-7), 6-0 victory at number three. Freshmen Heather Kelley (Narangansett, RI/Narangansett) and Jaime Jackson (Milwaukee, WI/Divine Savios-Holy Angels) defeated their Fighting Scot counterparts at numbers five (6-4, 6-2) and six (6-3, 7-6 (7-1)), respectively.

Richardson and Wapotish were again successful at number two doubles at Knox and the number three team of Kelley and Jackson was also victorious. Both scores were 9-7. Richardson won 6-2, 6-4 at number two singles, Rudkovskaya prevailed 6-1, 6-1 at number three, and Wapotish evened her singles record on the day with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at number four. After falling 6-1 in the first set at number five, Kelley came back to claim sets two (6-3) and three (7-5) for the win and Jackson recorded a 6-1, 7-5 victory at number six.

Berry’s 7-5, 6-4 loss at number one was the closest of the nine matches against Grinnell.

The Foresters will host Carthage College Tuesday (September 21) afternoon at 3:00. The Foresters will play their final South Division contest at home on Saturday (September 25) against Illinois College. The team will also host both St. Norbert College and Beloit College on Sunday (September 26).
