Foresters Win One of Three Weekday Matches
Team defeats Benedictine, falls to Carroll and Beloit

BELOIT, Wis. - The Lake Forest College women’s tennis team is now 5-3 on the season after dropping two of three matches in a three-day span (September 17-19). The Foresters blanked visiting Benedictine University 9-0 on Monday, fell 6-3 to Carroll College at home on Tuesday, and were edged out 5-4 at Beloit College on Wednesday. Benedictine fell to 0-5 and Carroll and Beloit raised their records to 3-2 and 4-4, respectively.

Lake Forest started Monday’s win with victories at all three doubles positions. Senior Alli Berry (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) and freshman Iona O’Donnell (Nottingham, England/Dundle School) prevailed 8-0 at number one, junior Anne Demere (Savannah, Ga./Saint Vincent's Academy) and sophomore Molly Stapleton (St. Louis Park, Minn./Saint Louis Park) won 8-3 at two, and sophomores Hayley Roberts (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) and Kathryn Zaccarello (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) triumphed 8-2 at three.

In singles play Berry posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the top spot in the lineup and Stapleton won 6-2, 6-3 at number two. Freshman Lauren Stroner (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at three and classmate Natalie Atroshenko (Wheeling, Ill./Buffalo Grove) prevailed 6-2, 6-2 at four. Freshman Deepika Ramachandran (Mumbai, India/Mahindra United World College) recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory at five and sophomore Viri Del Bosque (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) rounded things out with a 6-0, 6-3 win at six.

At number one Berry and Demere combined for the Foresters’ only doubles victory (8-4) against Carroll.

In singles play, Berry was again victorious (6-2, 6-0) at number one and Stroner prevailed 6-2, 6-2 at five.

Lake Forest took two of three doubles matches at Beloit. Stapleton and Roberts won 8-5 at number two and Zaccarello teamed up with Atroshenko for an 8-6 triumph at three.

Stapleton and Zaccarello recorded victories in singles play as well. Stapleton won 6-1, 6-1 at number three and Zaccarello prevailed 6-4, 3-6, (10-3) at four.

Berry and Demere will compete in doubles and Berry in singles at this weekend’s (September 21-23) Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Tournament, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College. Stapleton and O’Donnell will also travel to Gustavus Adolphus for the Fall Invite. They will play in the doubles tourney and Stapleton will also compete in singles.
