Lake Forest Splits Four Midwest Conference South Division Matches
Foresters defeat Knox and Illinois College, fall to Monmouth and Grinnell

MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Forester women's tennis team split its only four Midwest Conference South Division matches over the weekend (September 20-21). Lake Forest won 9-0 at Knox College Saturday morning before falling 5-4 at Monmouth College that afternoon. On Sunday the Foresters fell 8-1 to Grinnell College and defeated Illinois College by the same score. Both of those matches were played at Monmouth. Lake Forest is now 4-5 overall on the season.

The Foresters began the weekend by winning all three doubles matches at Knox. Senior Anne Demere (Savannah, Ga./Saint Vincent's Academy) and freshman Sara Bennett (Sioux City, Iowa/Sioux City North) prevailed 8-5 at #1, Junior Molly Stapleton (St. Louis Park, Minn./Saint Louis Park) paired with freshman Nonie Carson (Littleton, Colo./Littleton) for an 8-4 triumph at #2, and the #3 team of junior Viri Del Bosque (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) and sophomore Natalie Atroshenko (Wheeling, Ill./Buffalo Grove) edged out their opponents 9-8 (7-4).

Carson won 3-6, 6-2, (10-6) at the top spot in the singles lineup and freshman Allison Hamel (Bend, Ore./Bend) recorded a 6-1, 6-4 victory at #2. Stapleton prevailed 1-6, 6-4, (10-1) at #3 and sophomore Lauren Stroner (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) extended her winning streak at #4 to six with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph. Bennett won 6-3, 6-2 at #5 and sophomore Michelle Stroner (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) earned her first collegiate singles victory by knocking off Knox's #6 player 6-3, 6-4.

Atroshenko and Michelle Stroner earned the Foresters' only doubles point at Monmouth with an 8-1 victory at #3.

Stapleton won 6-2, 6-3 at #3 singles, Bennett prevailed 6-3, 6-1 at #5, and sophomore Deepika Ramachandran (Mumbai, India/Mahindra United World College) posted a convincing 6-0, 6-1 victory at #6.

Lake Forest's on ly win against Grinnell on Sunday came at #6 singles where Ramachandran defeated her opponent 6-4 in both sets.

Illinois College had just four players so only two of the doubles matches were played. Stapleton and Carson moved up to the top spot and won 8-1 while Hamel and Michelle Stroner blanked their opponents 8-0 at #2.

Lauren Stroner and Del Bosque did not lose a game at #2 and #4 singles, respectively. Atroshenko recorded the team's other point with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #3. The Lady Blues forfeited the final two singles matches.

The Foresters will host Beloit College at 3:00 Wednesday afternoon (September 24) and will complete a suspended match at home against North Central College at 4:30 p.m. the next day. Lake Forest will then travel to Benedictine University for a 1:00 match Saturday afternoon (September 27).
