Foresters Clinch Spot in Midwest Conference Tournament
Win two out of three during long road weekend

Head Coach Chris Conger
Freshman Brittany Richardson is a perfect 7-0 on the season.
MONMOUTH, IL - The Lake Forest women's tennis team assured themselves at least a spot in the Midwest Conference tournament for the fourth year in a row after winning two of their three matches on the weekend. This marks the fourth time the team has qualified for the tournament under head coach Chris Conger during his four-year tenure. The Foresters improved to 6-2 on the season and 3-1 in the Midwest Conference.

The Foresters opened up the weekend on Saturday traveling to Galesburg, Illinois to take on Knox College where they squelched the Prairie Fire quickly, winning all nine of their matches. Leading the way for Lake Forest, in her first action back from injury, was freshman Courtney Livingston (Skokie, IL/ Niles North). Livingston battled back after dropping the first set, to eventually win number one singles in a third-set tiebreak (5-7, 6-4, 13-11). She also won a thriller at number one doubles (6-3, 3-6, 10-4) along with senior Angie Kral (Brookfield, WI/ Brookfield Central).  Earlier in the day Kral was triumphant at number three singles, where she won in straight sets (6-1, 6-1).  Freshman Shannon Pyle (Chatham, IL/ Glenwood) also contributed with two victories at number six singles (6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 10-4) and number three doubles (6-4, 7-5) where she was teamed with senior Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL/Granite City)

Later in the day, the Foresters found themselves in Monmouth, Illinois to face Monmouth College. Lake Forest defeated the Scots soundly (8-1) behind the strong play of Sophomore Maren Haag (Moraga, CA/Campolindo). Haag notched two victories in the match; first at number two singles (6-2, 6-1) and later at number one doubles (8-5) with freshman Brittany Richardson (Little Rock, AR/Central). Senior Jackie Pieczkiewicz (Greyslake, IL/Greyslake) remained perfect on the season by winning number three singles (6-0, 6-1) inching her even closer to the school's all-time win record. Freshman Ashley Wiegner (Langhorne, PA/The Hill School) and junior Abbey Jennings (Logan, OH/Logan) scored victories at number three doubles (8-1) and number five (6-0, 6-1) and six (6-1, 6-0) singles respectively.

With the number a berth in the tournament on the line, Lake Forest scored just enough team points before dropping the match to Grinnell College to secure a spot. Playing well for the Foresters was Richardson at number two singles (6-4, 6-4) and Kral at number three singles (6-4, 6-2). The win for Richardson raised her singles record to a perfect 7-0.  Slater and Pyle also added a win at number three doubles (6-4, 6-2).

Next up for the Foresters is Aurora University on Tuesday (September 24th). The match will take place at Lake Forest College and is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. They will then travel to North Central College on Wednesday (September 25th).  The non-conference match is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
