September 27, 2003 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID Foresters Move a Step Closer to Fifth Straight Tournament
Appearance
In their first match, the Foresters defeated Knox College 7-2 and moved into a second place tie in the MWC South standings with the Prairie Fire. Getting the squad off to a great start was the number one doubles team of freshmen Greer Stenberg (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth) and Madeline Harris (Wooster, OH/Wooster). Pairing up for just the third time in their career, Stenberg and Harris set the tone for the afternoon, battling their way to a tiebreak victory (9-8, (9-7)). Sophomore Brittany Richardson (Little Rock, AK/Central) also continued her hot play; winning at number two singles in straight sets (6-3, 6-0). The win also marked Head Coach Chris Conger's 50th career victory. In the second match of the double-header, the Foresters dismantled Monmouth College, shutting out the visiting Scots 9-0. Four players recorded two wins apiece in a match that saw a lot of "firsts" for Lake Forest. Senior Abbey Jennings (Logan, OH/Logan) had little trouble in her first-ever match at number three singles (6-3, 6-1) after teaming with freshman Jill Chudacoff (Highland Park, IL/Highland Park) for a win at number two doubles (8-6). Freshman Anastasia Rudkovskaya (Buffalo Grove, IL/Buffalo Grove) handled her first assignment at number one singles with ease, winning in straight sets (6-4, 6-3). The victory came just after Rudkovskaya and Richardson teamed up for their first win at number one singles (8-1). Freshman Katie Kunz (Monona, WI/Monona Grove) experienced a "first" of her own with her first collegiate victory. Kunz defeated her opponent at number six singles 6-3, 6-2. Freshmen Emily Bell (Chicago, IL/San Francisco Univ. H.S) and Kendal Wapotish (McHenry, IL/McHenry) also recorded two points each with their team effort at number three doubles (8-2) and wins at number four (6-3, 7-5) and five (6-1, 6-0) singles, respectively. The Foresters are back on the road this Tuesday (September 30th) to face the Warhawks of UW-Whitewater. The match is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m. They then return home for match-ups with Ripon College on Friday (October 3rd) and Carroll College on Wednesday (October 8th) Knox
