Lake Forest Opens Season with 6-3 Victory over Lawrence
Alli Berry, Molly Stapleton, and Iona O’Donnell each win twice

LAKEFOREST, Ill. - The Forester women’s tennis team began the 2007 season with a 6-3 victory at home over Lawrence University on Wednesday (September 5). It was the second loss in as many matches for the visiting Vikings.

The home team claimed two of the three doubles matches to begin the contest. Senior Alli Berry (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) and junior Anne Demere (Savannah, Ga./Saint Vincent's Academy) blanked their opponents at the top spot in the lineup 8-0 while sophomore Molly Stapleton (St. Louis Park, Minn./Saint Louis Park) partnered with freshman Iona O’Donnell (Nottingham, England/Dundle School) for an 8-5 triumph at number two.

Berry, Stapleton, and O’Donnell were also victorious in singles play. Berry won 6-1, 6-1 at number one, Stapleton prevailed 6-1, 6-4 at three, and O’Donnell recorded a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 victory at four. Freshman Lauren Stroner (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) added a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at number six.

The Foresters will host three matches this weekend (September 7-9). They will take on Ripon College at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Knox College at 1:00 Saturday afternoon, and Monmouth College at 1:00 Sunday afternoon. The final two matches will count in the Midwest Conference South Division standings.
