September 6th, 2001 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID Lake Forest Now 2-0 After 6-0 Victory at Aurora
AURORA, IL - The Lake Forest College women's tennis team raised its 2001 record to 2-0 with a 6-0 victory over Aurora University. It was Aurora's first match of the season. The match started with doubles action, and Lake Forest won both the matches that were contested. Sophomore Sarah Roberts (Plainfield, IL/Lyons Township) and senior Jamie Irons (Neenah, WI/Neenah) raised their number second number one doubles match in as many tries with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. At number two, senior Vanessa Lindsay (Englewood, CO/Englewood) and junior Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL/Granite City) teamed up to win 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. Aurora was forced to forfeit at number three doubles because they did not have enough players. Only one singles match was completed. Junior Jackie Pieczkiewicz (Grayslake, IL/Grayslake Community) played at number two in place of the injured Angie Kral (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central) and won 6-1, 6-1. Lake Forest won by forfeit at numbers five and six and the other three matches were stopped early and the match was ended because of lightning. Lake Forest will travel to Illinois College on Saturday (September 8th)
to take on both Grinnell College (12:00 pm) and Illinois College (3:00
pm). The matches will be the first of the season against Midwest Conference
South Division opponents.
