Victories over Grinnell and IC Put Foresters in MWC South Driver's Seat
Lake Forest moves to 4-0 on the season

JACKSONVILLE, IL - There was a lot riding on the two matches for the Lake Forest College women's tennis team on Saturday (September 8th). If they won both matches, they would all but qualify for the Midwest Conference Team Championship Tournament for the third straight year. If they lost both matches, they would just about eliminate themselves from tourney contention. The Foresters went with the first option by beating Grinnell College 7-2 and Illinois College 8-1.

The Grinnell match started with the singles competition, and Lake Forest took four of the six individual matches. Sophomore Sarah Roberts (Plainfield, IL/Lyons Township) won at number two, senior Jamie Irons (Neenah, WI/Neenah) at number three, and freshmen Yasmine Farag (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) and Maren Haag (Moraga, CA/Campolindo) each won their debut matches at numbers five and six, respectively.

The Foresters swept the three doubles matches, with Roberts and Irons playing at number one, senior Kendra Reilly (Oyster Bay, NY/Cold Spring Harbor) and Farag at number two, and senior Vanessa Lindsay (Englewood, CO/Englewood) and junior Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL/Granite City) at number three.

The second match of the day started where the first left off, with Lake Forest sweeping the doubles competition. Roberts and Irons moved to 4-0 on the year at number one doubles. Reilly and Farag are now 2-0 at number two. The team of Lindsay and Slater have played both number two and three on the year and have an overall record of 3-0.

The Foresters also took five of the six singles matches with victories at numbers two through six. Roberts (number two) and Irons (three) upped their individual records to 3-0 on the season. Farag (four) and Haag (six) have won both of their singles matches. Finally, Pieczkiewicz (five) has played at three different positions and is 3-1 overall.

Lake Forest is now 4-0 overall on the season and will be in action next on Wednesday (September 12th) when they host North Central College. The match will be held at Deerpath Park at 3:00 pm.
