Foresters Rattle Off Three Weekend Victories over MWC Teams
Molly Stapleton posts 6-0 record in singles and doubles combined

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College women’s tennis team hosted and won three matches against Midwest Conference schools over the weekend (September 7-9). The Foresters defeated Ripon College 7-2 on Friday, Knox College 8-1 on Saturday, and Monmouth College 5-4 on Sunday and are now 4-0 on the season. Ripon fell to 1-1 and it was the first dual match of the season for Knox and Monmouth. The final two matches counted in the league’s South Division standings.

Lake Forest won each of the three doubles matches against Ripon. Senior Alli Berry (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) and junior Anne Demere (Savannah, Ga./Saint Vincent's Academy) blanked their opponents 8-0 at number one, sophomore Molly Stapleton (St. Louis Park, Minn./Saint Louis Park) and freshman Iona O’Donnell (Nottingham, England/Dundle School) won 8-4 at two, and sophomores Kathryn Zaccarello (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) and Hayley Roberts (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) prevailed 8-2 at three.

Berry also shut out her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at the top singles spot in the lineup. Stapleton won 6-3, 6-2 at number two, Zacarello outlasted her opponent 3-6, 6-2, (8-6) at three, and freshman Deepika Ramachandran (Mumbai, India/Mahindra United World College) triumphed 6-4, 6-3 in her collegiate debut at six.

The Foresters fielded the same three doubles teams against Knox and they were each victorious. Berry and Demere won 8-2, Stapleton and O’Donnell posted an 8-0 shutout, and Zaccarello and Roberts prevailed 8-1.

Berry registered a 6-1, 6-1 victory at number one singles and O’Donnell won 6-1, 6-2 at three. Stapleton (6-0, 6-1) and Zaccarello (6-1, 6-0) surrendered just one game apiece at four and five, respectively, and freshman Lauren Stroner (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at six.

The home team came out on top of two of the three doubles matches against Monmouth. Stapleton and O’Donnell won 8-3 at number two and Zaccarello combined with freshman Natalie Atroshenko (Wheeling, Ill./Buffalo Grove) on an 8-3 victory at three.

Berry raised her number one singles record on the year to 4-0 with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-0) triumph. Stapleton came from behind to finish off a perfect weekend with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at four and Stroner posted a convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory at six.

The Foresters will play their first road match of the season Friday (September 14) evening at 5:00 at St. Norbert College.
