Directions:

You must make a PowerPoint presentation of your final paper to the class in December. Dates and times will be assigned the week before Thanksgiving break. Your presentation must use PowerPoint and last between 13 and 17 minutes not counting the Q&A session. Failure to give a presentation on your scheduled day, at the scheduled time, and in the scheduled room for any reason will result in 0 points. There will be no opportunity to make up missed presentations.

Rubric for Scoring Presentations:

Every presenter will earn up to 60 points according to the criteria below.

Style: All presenters should be well-dressed, speak at a reasonable pace, have a good presence (don't fidget), have good eye-contact, and be serious.

  1. All five components listed above.
  2. Four of the five components.
  3. Three of the five components.
  4. Two of the five components.
  5. One of the five components.

Slides: All presenters must give a PowerPoint presentation. The presenter must have command of PowerPoint. PowerPoint slides need to be informative, free of errors, and easy to read.

  1. PowerPoint slides were informative, free of errors, and easy to read.
  2. PowerPoint slides were below-standard in one of the three categories listed above.
  3. PowerPoint slides were below-standard in two of the three categories listed above.
  4. PowerPoint slides were below-standard in all three of the categories listed above.
  5. PowerPoint was not used in the presentation.

Timing: The presentation, before Q & A, should be between 9 and 11 minutes.

  1. The presentation was between 9 and 11 minutes.
  2. The presentation was 8 or 12 minutes.
  3. The presentation was 7 or 13 minutes.
  4. The presentation was 6 or 14 minutes.
  5. The presentation was under 6 minutes or over 14 minutes.

Issue: The presentation must present the issue clearly and completely, including its importance.

  1. The presentation included a clear and complete description of the issue.
  2. The presentation included a clear and complete description of the issue except in one or two instances.
  3. The presentation failed to include a complete description of the issue.
  4. The presentation failed to include a clear or complete description of the issue.
  5. The presentation failed to present the issue.

Policy Prescription: The presentation must present a clear policy prescription and argue for its intended benefits.

  1. The presentation included a clear and complete description of the policy prescription.
  2. The presentation included a clear and complete description of the policy prescription except on one or two points.
  3. The presentation failed to include a complete description of the policy prescription.
  4. The presentation failed to include a clear or complete description of the policy prescription.
  5. The presentation failed to present a policy prescription.

Questions and Answers Each presenter must take questions from the audience.

  1. All questions were clearly answered and in a timely manner.
  2. All questions were clearly answered, but some could have been answered more directly.
  3. Most but not all questions were clearly answered.
  4. Most but not all questions were clearly answered, and some answers were wrong.
  5. None of the questions were answered well.

Audience Participation: Each presenter must also be an active audience member during the other presentations. This includes coming to the presentations and asking questions.
