The third midterm is next Monday Nov. 23. We will have a review session after the quiz on Friday. The following exercises are useful for the midterm (Ignore the spherical coordinate and cylindrical coordinate problems).

Textbook

Multivatiable Calculus by Edwards and Penney.

Topics we will cover

We will cover classic topics in multivariable calculus. Partial differentiation, double and triple integrals, vectors and much more.
The sections from the book we'll cover are the following:

12.1, 12.2, 12.3, 12.4, 12.5, 12.6, 12.7, 12.8 (three dimensional analytic geometry).
13.1, 13.2, 13.3, 13.4, 13.5, 13.6, 13.7, 13.8 (multivariable functions and differentiation).
13.9, 13.10 (optimization and classification of critical points).
14.1, 14.2, 14.3, 10.2, 14.4, 14.5, 14.6, 14.7 (multiple integrals and other coordinate systems).
15.1, 15.2 (vector fields and line integrals).
14.8, 15.5 (surface integrals).
15.3, 15.4, 15.6, 15.7 (vector calculus theorems).

Grading

The course grade will be based on:
Quizzes 15%,
Midterms 45% (15% each),
Final Exam 40%.

Homework

There will be written homework roughly every week. The most recent homework will be posted in the announcements and a copy of all homeworks can be accessed here.
Collaboration in the homework is permitted. The homework won't be turned in, instead there will be quizzes to test you on the homework exercises. There will be approximately 15 quizzes throughout the semester (roughly every week). The quizzes will test on questions similar to those assigned on the homework.

Exams

There will be three midterms and one final exam. On the midterms and the final exam you must work on the problems on your own. No collaboration permitted in the exams.

The (tentative) dates are:

The first midterm will be on Wednesday September 23.
The second midterm will be on Friday October 30.
The third midterm will be on Monday November 23.
The final exam will be on Friday December 11 from 1:30pm to 4:30pm.

Attendance

Students are expected to come to every lecture and every exam.

If the dates of the exams conflict with Lake Forest approved events, inform me as soon as possible.
