        Here are a few Civil War links that you may find helpful. Although there is an awesome amount of information about the Civil War available on the web, most of it is not useful for scholarly research. These sites should be of help.

   The American Civil War Homepage

            This is a wonderful Civil War website with a terrific amount of information on all aspects of the Civil War. Among the various items found here inlcude full text versions of the U.S. Government's War of the Rebellion, the official record of the war compiled for twenty years during the late 19th century. Among others, Shelby Foote said that he found it particularly invaluable while writing his classic three volume narrative of the war. Click on "to the Civil War resources," and you will be well on your way.

   A Civil War Reading List

            This is a link to a very good list of books on various Civil War subjects. Includes James M.McPherson's Battle Cry of Freedom, as well as less famous works.

   The Civil War Center

            Maintained by Louisiana State University, this is a very good site for Civil War research. It is somewhat cluttered with information of a less scholarly nature, but nevertheless is home to a lot of good information.

   The George Tyler Moore Center for the Study of the Civil War

            Still developing but nevertheless useful site for Civil War research. It is committed to developing a center for Civil War research that focuses on military, socioeconomic, and medical data for soldiers from both armies. Began with its focus on just West Virigina soldiers, but continues to grow.

  Selected Civil War Photographs at the American Memory Project

            A section of the massive American Memory website that focuses specifically on photgraphs from the Civil War. Especially useful because it breaks the photos down chronologically and tells you exactly what the picture is and, when known, where it was taken.
