April 13, 2002 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID Three Wins on Saturday Give Foresters a 4-1 Record
at "The Classic"
Senior leftfielder Kristen Brand (McHenry, IL/McHenry West) was the clutch performer in the victory over Lawrence, going 2-for-3 and driving in two of the team's three runs. Senior catcher Jenn Reifenberg (Skokie, IL/Niles West) and a pair of freshmen, designated player Alissa Mildebrath (Carol Stream, IL/West Chicago) and shortstop Tina Koludrovic (Darien, IL/Downers Grove South), each added a pair of hits as well. Collecting her first complete game shutout of the season was sophomore Leigh Anne Furgerson (Carmel, IN/Westfield), who allowed just five hits in the game. Against Carroll, who defeated the Foresters 5-3 in a non-conference game earlier this season, one run was enough as Nancy Findeisen (Beecher, IL/ Beecher) blanked her opponent for the fifth time this year, increasing her school record in that category. The sophomore struck out seven while walking just one in the team's second five-hit shutout of the day. Reifenger doubled with one out in the bottom of the second inning and, one batter later, scored the only run of the contest on a Pioneer error. In the team's third game of the day, Lake Forest broke open a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth when Reifenberg hit her seventh double of the season to drive in Koludrovic, who had extended her hitting streak to seven games with a double of her own. Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) pitched well in her first start of the season. In five innings the freshman allowed just one run on three Ripon hits. Furgerson relieved Clerkin in the sixth and retired all six batters she faced to collect her second victory of the day and raise her record for the year to 4-3. The Foresters, who are now 12-7 overall and 6-1 in the MWC, will finally play their home opener on Monday (April 15th) when they host North Central College (19-6-1) at 3:00 PM. Lake
