April 15, 2009 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID Foresters Split with Illinois College at Home
Game one was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when Illinois College scored on the first of three home runs in the game. The Lady Blues then extended their lead with a three-run shot in the fifth. The Foresters got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning. Junior Sam Pinsonneault (Manchester, N.H./New Hampton) led off the frame with a double and senior Hannah Michal (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake) drove her in with a base hit to right field. Michal then beat a potential fielder's choice throw to second, advanced to third on a double play groundout, and scored on a single by junior Mallory Norton (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection). A two-run home run in the Illinois College half of the seventh inning closed out the scoring. Michal, Norton, and Pinsonneault each had two base hits in the game as Lake Forest out-hit the visitors 8-6 but left 10 runners on base. The Foresters started the scoring in game two with a three-run second inning. Freshman Leslie Harshey (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) began the rally with a one-out single and junior Shelby Neill (Manitou Beach, Mich./Lenawee Christian) reached on an error. Pinsonneault then singled up the middle and advanced all the way to third base when the ball got past the Lady Blue centerfielder. Two batters later, Pinsonneault broke for home as the third baseman errantly threw to first trying to retire freshman Ashley Szyszka (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection). The home team broke the game open with four runs in the third. Junior Jeanette Andresen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) and sophomore Kaylee Gendrich (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) started the inning with singles and advanced a base on a sacrifice bunt by Harshey. After Neill walked, Pinsonneault doubled in a pair of runs and Michal doubled in two more. Illinois College scored its only run off Andresen on a homer in the bottom of the third. Andresen allowed just five base hits while striking out four and walking one in the complete game victory. The Foresters added one run in the top of the fifth inning. Harshey led off the frame with a base hit and later scored on another double by Michal. Lake Forest close out the scoring with two runs in the sixth inning. Junior Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) and Andresen both singled and the Foresters eventually had runners at second and third. The first run scored on a wild pitch and the second came home when the throw from the catcher got past the pitcher covering home. Pinsonneault and Michal turned in their second two-hit game of the day and, combined, went 8-for-12 with four doubles, four runs scored, and seven RBI. Rainey, Andresen, and Harshey also had two hits in the contest. The Foresters will play five games this weekend (April 18-19) against Midwest Conference North Division opponents at the MWC Classic in Janesville, Wisconsin.
