KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Lake Forest College softball team fell 7-0 to Simpson College, which entered the week ranked 10th in the nation, before defeating Husson University 9-3 on Tuesday (March 10). The Foresters are now 2-4 during the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida. Simpson raised its record to 10-3 and Husson fell to 2-7.

Simpson took the early lead in Lake Forest's first game of the day with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Storm added two more in the second and closed out the scoring with three in the third.

The Foresters' three base hits in the contest were turned in by junior Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park), sophomore Kaylee Gendrich (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North), and junior Jill Pfund (Morenci, Mich./Morenci).

Lake Forest jumped ahead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning against Husson. Freshman Leslie Harshey (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) drew a leadoff walk and classmate Ashley Szyszka (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) followed with a single. Rainey then doubled in Harshey before scoring with Szyszka on a base hit by junior Mallory Norton (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection).

After the Eagles plated one in the top of the second, the Foresters scored four in the bottom of the frame. Rainey doubled in two and scored on a double by senior Hannah Michal (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake). Michal then came home on a base hit by junior Shelby Neill (Manitou Beach, Mich./Lenawee Christian).

Husson trimmed the lead to 7-3 with a run in the fourth inning and another in the fifth. A pair of Eagle errors and an RBI groundout by sophomore Sarah Brusig (Rifle, Colo./Rifle) in the fifth inning brought home the Foresters' eighth run of the game. Norton singled in the contest's final tally in the bottom of the sixth.

Harshey made her pitching debut and tossed the first three innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on one base hit. Junior Jeanette Andresen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) struck out six batters in the final four innings while surrendering just one hit and an unearned run to earn the victory.

The Foresters will face Simpson College at 9:00 Tuesday (March 10) morning and Husson University at 1:00 p.m. The team will be off on Wednesday before playing twice on Thursday and Friday.
