March 12, 2009 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID Lake Forest Downed by Trine and Ursinus at Rebel Spring Games
Forester freshmen Ashley Szyszka (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) and Leslie Harshey (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) shared the pitching duties against Trine. Szyszka started and held the Thunder scoreless for five innings, allowing just four base hits and a walk while striking out three. Harshey surrendered one hit and an unearned run in the sixth inning and struck out four in two frames. Freshman Danielle Gore (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) and senior Hannah Michal (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake) had Lake Forest's only two base hits in the contest. The Foresters took the early lead against Ursinus. Szyszka singled with one out in the top of the first inning, stole second, and scored on a double by junior Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park). The Bears took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third inning and broke the game open with five in the fourth and one more in the fifth. Singles by Gore and junior Jill Pfund (Morenci, Mich./Morenci) and a walk by junior Shelby Neill (Manitou Beach, Mich./Lenawee Christian) loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh but Lake Forest scored just one run in the inning on a double play groundout. The Foresters will finish their Spring Break trip with a pair of games on Friday (March 13).
