KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Lake Forest College softball team split its final two Rebel Spring Games on Friday (March 13) and finished its Spring Break trip with a mark of 3-7. The Foresters began the day with a 2-0 triumph over College of Mount St. Joseph before being defeated 6-0 by Coe College. Mount St. Joseph fell to 3-4 on the season and Coe raised its record to 9-3.

Junior Jeanette Andresen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) tossed her fifth career shutout in Lake Forest's first game of the day. She scattered five base hits and three walks while striking out four in seven innings of work. Andresen finished the trip with a 2-2 record and 1.93 earned run average.

After keeping the Lions off the scoreboard by recording outs at third base and home plate during the bottom of the third inning, the Foresters broke the scoreless tie with a run in the fourth. Junior Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a base hit by classmate Mallory Norton (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection). Andresen then helped her own cause by doubling in Rainey with the game's first run.

Lake Forest added an insurance run the next inning. Freshman Leslie Harshey (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) singled with one out, advanced to third on an error, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Rainey. It was Rainey's team-high seventh run batted in of the week and she and Harshey tied for first on the squad with four runs scored.

Mount St. Joseph loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fifth but Andresen escaped and surrendered just one base hit the rest of the way.

Coe jumped out to the early lead with a pair of first-inning runs in the Foresters' second game of the day. The Kohawks added three in the third inning and one more in the fourth. All but one of the runs allowed by sophomore Gretchen Galasek (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) were unearned as she lowered her earned run average to 3.11.

Rainey had two of Lake Forest's three base hits in the game and led the squad with a .357 average (10-for-28) and six doubles on the trip. Norton also singled in the contest and batted .300 (9-for-30) on the week.

The Foresters' next game will be their home opener against Northland College on Sunday, March 22. The first pitch is scheduled for noon and the teams will play just one game.
