LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester softball team defeated Northland College 11-3 in six innings on Sunday (March 22) in the squad's home opener. Lake Forest raised its record on the season to 4-7 while the LumberJills fell to 3-11.

Northland scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning and added one in the second, taking advantage of three walks and a pair of hit-by-pitches in the two frames combined.

The Foresters then erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the second. Junior Jeanette Andresen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) started the rally with a leadoff single and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Senior Hannah Michal (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake) had an RBI-single, another run scored on an error, and junior Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) plated two with her second single of the game. Junior Mallory Norton (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) capped off the inning with her ninth career home home run to right-center field.

The home team added two runs in the fourth. Michal singled with one out and later scored on a base hit by Rainey, who came home on a double by Norton.

Freshman Leslie Harshey (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) hit her first career home run to lead off the fifth inning. She is tied with Rainey for the team lead with six runs scored this season.

Michal matched a career-high with her third base hit of the game to lead off the sixth inning. She advanced to second on a wild pitch, went to third on a groundout, and scored on Rainey's fourth single of the contest. It was Rainey's first career four-hit game and she matched her career-high with four runs batted in.

Sophomore pitcher Gretchen Galasek (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) settled down after a rough start to earn the complete-game victory. She allowed six base hits in as many innings while stiking out five batters and walking four. Two of the LumberJills' three runs were earned.

Lake Forest will travel to Wheaton College next Saturday (March 28) for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader before hosting a twinbill against Carthage College at the same time the next day.
