March 28, 2009 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID Foresters Drop Doubleheader at Wheaton College
Lake Forest took the lead in the third inning of game of the opener. Senior Hannah Michal (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake) singled and advanced to second with one out, went to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scord on a base hit by junior Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park). Unfotunately for the Foresters, Wheaton tied the score in the bottom of the third and plated four runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. Michal finished the game with three of the visitors' five base hits. The Thunder jumped out to the early lead in game two with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Lake Forest got on the scoreboard in the top of the second on a pair of Wheaton errors. The home team, however, extended its lead to 7-1 with three runs in its half of the inning. Michal singled in freshman Leslie Harshey (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein), who led off the fourth inning with a base hit, with the Foresters' second run of the contest. Wheaton responded once again with two runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 9-2 lead. Lake Forest loaded the bases with one out in the sixth inning and scored a pair of runs on a pinch-hit sacrifice fly by sophomore Kaylee Gendrich (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North). The Foresters out-hit the Thunder 8-5 in the game but left 10 runners on base. Both teams committed three errors. Michal matched her career-high with three base hits for the third straight contest. Lake Forest will travel to Wheaton College next Saturday (March 28) for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader before hosting a twinbill against Carthage College at the same time the next day.
