March 8, 2009 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID Foresters Split Pair of Games to Start the 2009 Season
Lake Forest jumped out to the early lead against Webster by plating two int he top of the first inning. Freshman Leslie Harshey (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) led off the frame with a singe, stole second, and scored on a one-out triple by junior Mallory Norton (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection). Junior Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) then hit a sacrifice fly to center to drive in Norton. The Gorloks scored on two-out home run in the bottom of the inning. The Foresters extended their lead to 3-1 in the third. Norton singled with one out, advanced to second on a base hit by Rainey, and scored on a double by junior Shelby Neill (Manitou Beach, Mich./Lenawee Christian). Webster rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and added the game's final tally in the sixth. Norton finished with three base hits in the game and Harshey and Rainey each had two. Junior Jeanette Andresen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) struck out five batters and allowed three earned runs in six innings. Lake Forest scored both of its runs against Lesley in the bottom of the second inning. Sophomore Kaylee Gendrich (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) drew a walk with one out and went to third on a two-out double by classmate Sarah Brusig (Rifle, Colo./Rifle). Both runners then scored on a base hit by junior Charice Wilcynski (Long Grove, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) in her first career plate appearance. Lesley scored its only run of the contest in the top of the third. Sophomore Gretchen Galasek (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) surrendered just three base hits while striking out a career-high six batters in the game. Junior Jill Pfund (Morenci, Mich./Morenci) threw out a pair of runners attempting to steal - one at third base with one out in the third inning and another at second with one out in the sixth. Lake Forest will play two more games on Monday (March 9). The Foresters will take on Marietta College at 3:00 p.m. and Mount Union College at 5:00.
