Lake Forest Falls to Marietta and Mount Union
Team has six more Rebel Spring Games remaining

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Forester softball team suffered a pair of losses on Monday (March 9) at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida. Lake Forest fell 5-0 to Marietta College and 4-2 to Mount Union College and is now 1-3 on the season. It was Marietta's third win in as many games this season and Mount Union raised its record to 3-1.

In the first game Marietta took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third inning and added one in the fourth and two more in the sixth.

Forester base hits were turned in by juniors Sam Pinsonneault (Manchester, N.H./New Hampton), Jeanette Andresen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South), and Mallory Norton (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection).

Sophomore pitcher Gretchen Galasek (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) started for Lake Forest and allowed a pair of runs in two-and-one-third innings. Freshman Ashley Szyszka (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) gave up two earned runs in three-and-two-thirds inninngs in her first collegiate pitching appearance.

The Foresters took the early lead in their second game of the day. Freshman Leslie Harshey (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) drew a walk to lead off the first inning, advanced to second on a passed ball, went to third on a groundout, and scored on a double by junior Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park).

Mount Union tied the game in the top of the fourth inning on the only run surrendered by Andresen, who allowed five base hits while striking out two and walking one in five innings of work.

Lake Forest regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on junior Shelby Neill's (Manitou Beach, Mich./Lenawee Christian) second double of the contest.

The Purple Raiders scored three unearned runs off Szyszka in the top of the seventh to win the game.

The Foresters will face Simpson College at 9:00 Tuesday (March 10) morning and Husson University at 1:00 p.m. The team will be off on Wednesday before playing twice on Thursday and Friday.
