Junior center Lisa Nassin (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) led Lake Forest with 13 points and four steals. Junior forward Claire Schmidt (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) was next on the team with 10 points and she led the squad with six rebounds. Junior guard Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) scored six points and dished out a team-high four assists.
The Foresters shot 40 percent from the field, made two of 10 three-pointers, and knocked down just half of their 14 free throws. Millikin shot 57.1 percent from the floor, 9-for-21 from beyond the arc, and 15-for-18 from the foul line. Lake Forest was out-rebounded 35-22 and committed 25 of the game's 51 turnovers.
Millikin jumped out to a 13-6 lead but the Foresters came back and tied the game at 15. The Big Blue built a six-point lead with three-and-a-half minutes to play in the first half before the home team used a 9-2 run to take what turned out to be its only lead of the game. The visitors scored the final basket of the opening period and led 29-28 at halftime.
Lake Forest trailed by three with 16 minutes to play before a surrendering 16 straight points in less than six minutes, quickly putting the game out of reach.
The Foresters' next two games will be part of the Grand Canyon Classic in Phoenix, Arizona. Lake Forest will take on Kean University, the nation's top-ranked team, at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28.
