2005 Preview: Bigger and Better

Leann Kimmons was the team's Most Improved Runner last season.

The 2004 women’s cross country team was the largest in the program’s history, which dates back to 1995. Without a single senior among its 12 members, Head Coach Tina McDonie expects an even larger squad in 2005. “More numbers means more opportunities,” she begins, “so I expect the program will make tremendous progress in the next year.”

What her squad accomplished last year was a jump in the Midwest Conference standings from ninth to seventh. A similar rise in 2005 would put her team in the top half of the league. “Our top five runners were freshmen and sophomores,” states McDonie. “A few talented additions each year will keep us going in the right direction.”

Sophomore Katie Snowden, who became the first Forester in team history to repeat as an All-MWC performer with her eighth-place finish at the 2004 championship meet, is the leader of the team. Snowden’s career-best 5K time of 19:37 ranks fifth in the program’s history, and she owns 12 of the top 25 performances. Leann Kimmons was also consistently among the team’s top five in 2004.
