Foresters Open 2002 Season at Elmhurst Earlybird Invitational
Short early-season meet includes women's 2-mile and men's 5-kilometer races

ELMHURST, IL - The cross country squad became the first Lake Forest College team to compete in the 2002 fall season Saturday (August 31) at the Elmhurst Earlybird Invitational. The men's team placed 15th out of 20 schools and the women were 18th.

In the women's race, host Elmhurst College won the team title with 59 points, two less than the University of Chicago and 20 less than Wheaton College. In the men's competition, Chicago scored just 52 points. Elmhurst had 75 and Wheaton was third with 97.

Individually, senior Erin Motzer (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) was Lake Forest's top female runner, completing the 2-mile course in 13:41. Junior Lee Winklepleck (Shaker Heights, OH/Hathaway Brown) was second on the squad at 14:07 and Elisabeth Lewis (Bala Cynwyd, PA/Black Forest Academy), in her first-ever collegiate meet, was third at 14:33. Rounding out the team's top five were sophomore Andrea Lindblom (Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) and freshman Dawn Filkins (Lawrence, KS/Lawrence Free State).

On the men's side, sophomore Logan Dick (Tucson, AZ/Salpointe Catholic) was the first Forester to cross the finish line. His time of 17:58 for five kilometers was 12 seconds ahead of teammate Derek Meiring (Carleton, MI/Airport Senior), a freshman competing in his first collegiate meet. Senior captain Eric Crawley (Braintree, MA/Thayer) was third on the team at 18:28. Junior Beau Llewellyn (Oro Station, ON/Eastview Secondary School) and freshman Michael Sutherland (Madison, NJ/Madison) completed Lake Forest's top five.

The Foresters will travel to Green Bay, Wisconsin next Saturday (September 7) for the Tom Barry Invitational, hosted by St. Norbert College. The women will run five kilometers and the men will complete a 4-mile course.
