Murillo and Crawley lead the
Foresters
COLFAX, WI - The University
of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of Wisconsin-Stout teamed up
to host the 2000 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championship on Saturday
(November 11th) at the Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, WI. The meet qualified
five teams of both and seven individuals (not on those teams) for the NCAA
National Championship next Saturday (November 18th) in both the men's and
women's races.
The Foresters placed 29th in the
men's race and were led for the second consecutive meet by sophomore Eric
Crawley (Braintree, MA/Thayer), who ran a career-best time of 28:19
on the 8-kilometer course. He was followed close behind by junior Charles
Evans (Asheville, NC/Carolina Day School) whose time of 28:38 was just
ten seconds off his personal best.
In the women's 5-kilometer race,
the Foresters placed 26th as a team, and were led for the first time all
year by senior Michelle
Murillo (Des Plaines, IL/Maine West). Murillo's time of 20:18 was her
best of the season, as was sophomore Melissa
Brown's (Cape Coral, FL/Cape Coral) time of 21:29.
It was the last meet of the season
for the Foresters as well as the final career race for seniors Amy
Horvat (Cleveland Heights, OH/Gilmour), Sarah
Simpson (Colorado Springs, CO/Palmer) and Murillo. Next year's freshmen
will join the three juniors, eight sophomores and four freshmen on this
season's roster. |
