More than 650 runners competed in the meet

Melissa Brown was the top finisher on the women's team.
KENOSHA, WI - Lake Forest College head cross country coach Tina McDonie took four women and eight men just north if the Illinois-Wisconsin border Saturday (October 13th) for the UW-Parkside Invite.

The team champion in the women's race, which included 325 participants, was Indiana State University, with 62 points. Rounding out the top three were UW-Oshkosh (82) and host UW-Parkside (114). Only teams with at least five runners counted in the team standings.

Lake Forest's top female finisher was junior Melissa Brown (Cape Coral, FL/Cape Coral), who completed the soggy 5-kilometer course in 22 minutes and 29 seconds and in 214th place. Sophomore Lee Winklepleck (Shaker Heights, OH/Hathaway Brown) finished just 18 places and 28 seconds behind Brown.

In the men's 8-kilometer race, Indiana State University completed the sweep by scoring just 54 points. Depauw University was next with 95 points and UW-Whitewater placed third with 125. Lake Forest placed 26th in the 32-team field.

Individually, senior Charles Evans (Asheville, NC/Carolina Day School) finished ahead of all but 94 of the 327 other runners in the race with a time of 28:19. Junior Eric Crawley (Braintree, MA/Thayer) was next on the team at 29:31. Sophomore Sean O'Connor (Plantation, FL/Anderson) was the only Forester to approach a season-best on the hilly and muddy course, missing by just 11 seconds.

The team is hoping for much better weather next Saturday (October 20th) when they host the 3rd Annual Forester Invitational. The meet, which will include more than 20 schools, will be held at Half Day Forest Preserve in Vernon Hills, Illinois at 11:00 am.
