Lake Forest, Ill. - The Lake Forest College cross country teams hosted their annual invitational on Saturday (October 14) and had the individual champion in both races. The Forester men won the four-team meet while the women placed second out the five squads behind NCAA Division I Northwestern University.

Senior Katie Snowden (Toronto, Ontario/York Mills Collegiate Institution) defended her individual title from last year with a winning time of 19:04 on the newly-designed 5-kilometer course. Classmate Leann Kimmons (Centennial, Colo./Eaglecrest) was the runner-up in 19:25. Their times rank second and fifth, respectively, in school history. Freshman Diane Stajszczak (Boulder City, Nev./Boulder City) placed fifth in the race in 20:21, junior Samantha Yozze (Lemont, Ill./College of Dupage) was 13th in 21:28, and sophomore Sarah Marrinan (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Cathedral) finished 15th in 21:42.

Freshman John Thies (Los Angeles, Calif./Saint Francis) sprinted to the finish line and finished just one second ahead of the runner-up to win the men’s 8-kilometer race in 27:39. Sophomore Andrew Hutchinson (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia) placed third in 28:03. Sophomores Asa Reynolds (Bethesda, Md./Walt Witman), Curt Miller (Reno, Nev./Sage Ridge School), and Levi Paul (Austin, Minn./Governor Dummer) were eighth, ninth, and 11th in 28:39, 28:56, and 29:19, respectively.

All but one of the 12 Forester women in the race posted season-best times, as did each of the eight men.

After a weekend off, Lake Forest will compete in the Midwest Conference Championship Meet on Saturday, October 28. The men’s 8K race will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the women’s 5K will follow at noon.
