FORESTERS BATTLE TOUGH FIELD, COURSE AT UW-PARKSIDE
Facing their largest, and fastest, field thus far this season, the Lake Forest College men's and women's cross country teams were a part of nearly 400 runners and approximately 35 teams in each of the men's and women's races on Saturday. The field of teams ranged from NCAA Division I and II teams to NAIA schools to junior colleges to NCAA Division III teams.
The Lake Forest women's team took 30th place overall, out of 34 teams. Junior Sarah Simpson (Colorado Springs, CO) finished in the top half of all racers with her 140th place finish and a time of 20:53. It was Simpson's second fastest time of her career and the 19th fastest time in school history. Michelle Murillo (Des Plaines, IL) finished 208th (21:34) with Jill Hinrichs (Geneseo, IL) following just two places behind with a time of 21:35, a personal best. Molly Sutherland (St. Paul, MN) also ran her fastest time ever (23:17) while Lark Mills (Arlington, TX) and Kat McCauley (Golden Valley, MN) ran the second best 5K times of their careers at 23:30 and 24:39, respectively.
Three freshmen ran for an injury-depleted Lake Forest men's team. Eric Crawley (Braintree, MA), Sean Smith (Evergreen, CO), and Brandon Johnson (Phoenix, AZ) competed for the Foresters. Crawley ran a 30:09, his third fastest time this season, while Smith and Johnson each ran the second best time of their respective careers. Smith finished the eight-kilometer course in 31:08 and Johnson finished in 33:52.
