LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College cross country teams hosted the sixth annual Forester Invitational on Saturday (October 16) at Half Day Forester Preserve in Vernon Hills. Five men’s teams and six women’s squads competed against each other and the cold, windy day. The Forester men claimed the team championship, their first victory since the program was revived in 1995, and the women placed fourth.

Lake Forest sophomore Dan Hankosky (Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg) also claimed the individual title with an 8-kilometer time of 26:51. Freshman Humberto Palmerin (Highland Park, IL/Highland Park) was fourth overall in 27:20 and junior Derek Meiring (Carleton, MI/Airport Senior) finished sixth with a season-best 27:40. Senior Logan Dick (Tucson, AZ/Salpointe Catholic) was 10th with a time of 28:28 and junior Will Pittinos (Coral Gables, FL/Palmer-Trinity) completed the team’s top five in 23rd place with a time of 30:33. There were 35 runners in the race.

In the women’s 5K, sophomore Katie Snowden (Toronto, ON/York Mills Collegiate Institution) completed the course in a season-best time of 19:46 and finished third out of 58 runners. Sophomore Liz Martinez (Chicago, IL/Cristo Rey Jesuit) placed 17th in 21:19 and freshman Elisa Luna (Highwood, IL/Highland Park) was the next finisher just four second back. Sophomore Leann Kimmons (Centennial, CO/Eaglecrest) cracked the top 20 in 21:35 and freshman Laura Desjarlais (Nashua, NH/Derryfield) placed 25th in 22:01 and was the first of five straight Foresters to cross the finish line. Ten of the 12 Lake Forest women in the race ran their fastest time of the season.

After skipping a weekend of competition, the Foresters will travel to Appleton, Wisconsin, on October 30 for the Midwest Conference Championship Meet. The men’s 8K will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the women’s 5K will follow at noon.
