Andrea Lindblom took 1:09 off her best 5K time of the year.
VERNON HILLS, IL - With 308 cross country runners (151 women and 157 men), the field for the 2001 Forester Invitational was the biggest in the three-year history of the event. The Forester women placed 9th in the 23-team field and the men finished 10th out of 21 teams.

The women's race was first and, with 60 points, Northwestern University took home the team title. Carroll College finished a close second with 69 points. UW-Parkside was third with 97 points.

The individual champion was Christian Bock from Bethel College, who completed the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes and 16 seconds. The top Forester in the women's race was senior Melissa Brown (Cape Coral, FL/Cape Coral), who finished in 52nd place with a time of 21:59, the best on the team this year.

Five of Brown's teammates crossed the finish line within the next minute. Junior Erin Motzer (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville), who ran alongside Brown for much of the race, finished just three seconds behind her at 22:02. Sophomore Lee Winklepleck (Shaker Heights, OH/Hathaway Brown), senior Cristina Roti (Chicago, IL/New Trier), junior Molly Sutherland (St. Paul, MN/Visitation), and freshman Andrea Lindblom (Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) gave the team six runners under 23 minutes.

Charles Evans completed the 8K course in 27:12, just four seconds off the school record.
In the men's race, the Milwaukee School of Engineering pulled out the victory with 119 points. Carroll College (139) edged out Concordia University (140) for second.

Adam Broten of Carroll College finished the 8-kilometer race in a course record 25 minutes and 26 seconds. The winning times the first two years were the same - 26:15. The Foresters' Charles Evans (Asheville, NC/Carolina Day School), a senior, completed the course in 11th place with a time of 27:12, missing the school record by just four seconds.

Junior Eric Crawley (Braintree, MA/Thayer) ran a career-best 28:09 to finish in 28th place. Senior Joe Zemaitis (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) broke the 29-minute barrier for the first time in 2001, albeit by just one second. Junior Rob Bahde (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield) finished in 29:55 and the team narrowly missed having five runners under 30 minutes for the first time ever when freshman Logan Dick (Tucson, AZ/Salpointe Catholic) crossed the line with a personal-best time of 30:18.

Next week the Foresters will be competing in the Midwest Conference Championship. Grinnell College will host the meet, which will begin at 11:00 am.
