Women finish 9th, men 8th at Midwest Conference Championship

Charles Evans finished in 13th place, good for All-Midwest Conference honors.
GRINNELL, IA - The Midwest Conference's ten cross country teams met in Grinnell, Iowa on Saturday (October 27th) for the league's championship meet. Lake Forest's women placed ninth in the meet while the men finished in eighth.

The team champion in the women's race was Lawrence University, who scored 41 points, just six less than runner-up Carroll College. St. Norbert College was third with 66.

Lake Forest's top runner was sophomore Lee Winklepleck (Shaker Heights, OH/Hathaway Brown), who completed the 5-kilometer course in a Forester season-best 21:03. Junior Erin Motzer (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) was just 19 seconds back at 21:22, her best time of the year. Senior Cristina Roti (Chicago, IL/New Trier), freshman Andrea Lindblom (Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) and junior Molly Sutherland (St. Paul, MN/Visitation) rounded out the team's top five.

In the men's race, Grinnell College ran away with the team title with just 39 points. Monmouth College was second with 90 points and St. Norbert College was third with 103.

For the first time in the Lake Forest College cross country program's seven-year history, the team can boast having an All-Conference runner after senior Charles Evans (Asheville, NC/Carolina Day School) finished in 13th place. Evand finished the 8-kilometer course in 27:16, just four seconds slower than the best time of his career and eight seconds off the school record.

If not for Evans, junior Eric Crawley's (Braintree, MA/Thayer) 21st-place finish would have been the best ever by a Forester at the conference meet. His time of 27:55 is the fastest of his career and the eighth-fastest in school history. Senior Joe Zemaitis (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) ran a season-best 28:27 and finished in 30th place. Junior Rob Bahde (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield) and freshman Logan Dick (Tucson, AZ/Salpointe Catholic) completed the squad's top five.

Head Coach Tina McDonie will take some of the Forester runners to the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship Meet in two weeks (November 10th). Augustana College will host the meet at Highland Springs Golf Course in Rock Island, Illinois.
