Lake
Forest Places 8th and 9th at MWC Championship
Simpson and Crawley are top
Forester finishers
RIPON, WI - The Lake Forest
College cross country teams competed Saturday (October 28th) at the Midwest
Conference Championship. The women finished in 8th place and the men were
9th among the ten conference schools.
Senior Sarah
Simpson (Colorado Springs, CO/Palmer), for the seventh time in seven
meets led the team with her 27th place finish and career-best time of 20:12.
Seven of the nine Foresters ran their fastest times of the season including
Simpson, fellow senior Amy
Horvat (Cleveland Heights, OH/Gilmour Academy), and sophomores Erin
Motzer (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville), Melissa
Brown (Cape Coral, FL/Cape Coral), Molly
Sutherland (St. Paul, MN/Visitation), Mackenzie
Lake (Spooner, WI/Spooner), and Kat
McCauley (Golden Valley, MN/St. John's).
The men's course was extremely grueling
and produced no season-bests, but a few Foresters had performances worth
recognition. For the first time this year, sophomore Eric
Crawley (Braintree, MA/Thayer) was the team's top finisher as he completed
the 8-kilometer course in 29:26 (31st place), nearly a minute faster than
he did three weeks earlier on the same course. Junior Charles
Evans (Asheville, NC/Carolina Day School) was next for the squad just
six places and 36 seconds back. Junior Naresh
Kavuri (Naperville, IL/Naperville Central) turned in the team's most
remarkable performance as finished in 32:08, more than two minutes faster
than his time on the same course three weeks earlier.
After a weekend off, the Foresters
will compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship in Colfax, WI on
November 11th. The men will run at 11:00 AM and the women will follow at
12:00 noon. It marks the final meet on the 2000 schedule for the Foresters. |
