GRINNELL, IA - The Lake Forest College cross country teams competed in the Midwest Conference Championship Meet on Saturday (October 29) at Oakland Acres Golf Course in Grinnell, Iowa. The Forester women moved up a spot from last year to sixth place and the men finished seventh, as they did in 2004. Grinnell won both competitions.

Forester junior Katie Snowden (Toronto, ON/York Mills Collegiate Institution) completed the 5-kilometer course in 18:57, the fastest time in school history by 17 seconds. She and classmate Leann Kimmons (Centennial, CO/Eaglecrest) each earned All-MWC honors by placing fifth and 16th, respectively. Kimmons finished in 19:47, the eighth-best time in team history and the fastest of her career by nearly a minute-and-a-half. Senior Genia Lindsey (Albuquerque, NM/Sandia) placed 29th in 20:33, a career-best time by almost a minute. Freshman Mackenzie Keeley (Calgary, AB/Lord Beaverbrook) was 45th in 21:27, followed immediately by junior Liz Martinez (Chicago, IL/Cristo Rey Jesuit) in 21:28 and sophomore Kris De la Torre (Aurora, CO/Eaglecrest) in 21:35.

Senior Derek Meiring (Carleton, MI/Airport Senior) was the top finisher for the men’s team. He placed 29th overall with an 8-kilometer time of 28:14. Freshman Andrew Hutchinson’s (Redwood City, CA/Sequoia) time of 28:47 was good for 40th place and junior Dan Hankosky (Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg) finished just seven seconds and two places later. Seniors Michael Wollar (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) and Will Pittinos (Coral Gables, FL/Palmer-Trinity) rounded out the team’s top five in 76th and 79th place, respectively.

Nine of the 10 Forester women who competed in the race ran their fastest 5k time of the season. Meiring and Wollar posted their top times of the year for the men.

Select members of the team will compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship in two weeks (November 12). The meet will be hosted by Greenville College in Peoria, Illinois.
