Foresters Finish Fifth (Women) and 12th (Men) at Eagle Invitational

Lisle, Ill. - The Lake Forest College cross country teams participated in Benedictine University’s Eagle Invitational on Friday (October 6). The Forester women placed fifth out of 15 complete team and the men finished 12th out of 18.

Senior Leann Kimmons (Centennial, Colo./Eaglecrest) was the first Forester female to cross the finish line. She placed 10th out of 147 runners and completed the 6-kilometer course in 23:54.1, a tenth of a second faster than the previous school record for that distance, set last season. Classmate Katie Snowden (Toronto, Ontario/York Mills Collegiate Institution) finished just 21 seconds and five places later. Sophomore Diane Stajszczak (Boulder City, Nev./Boulder City) was next on the team in 25:20 and in 33rd place. Junior Samantha Yozze (Lemont, Ill./College of Dupage) was 56th in 26:25 and freshman Martina Kolb (Gurnee, Ill./Warren) rounded out the top five in 84th place with a time of 27:58.

The men’s team was led by freshman John Thies (Los Angeles, Calif./Saint Francis) for the second time this season. Thies placed 58th out of 182 runners with an 8-kilometer time of 28:43.3. Sophomore Andrew Hutchinson (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia) finished just one place and four tenths of a second behind Thies. Sophomore Levi Paul (Austin, Minn./Governor Dummer) was the third Forester in 88th place with a time of 29:47 and classmate Curt Miller (Reno, Nev./Sage Ridge School) crossed the finish line just seven seconds and three places later. Fellow sophomore James Zender (Fishers, Ind./Home Schooled) placed 134th in 31:37.

Lake Forest will host the annual Forester Invitational next Saturday (October 14). The women’s 5K race will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the men’s 8K will follow at 11:45.
