Foresters Run through the Rain at Aurora University's Spartan Classic
Women place eighth, men ninth

AURORA, Ill. - The Lake Forest College cross country teams competed in Aurora University's Spartan Classic on Friday. The Forester women placed eighth out of 11 teams in the event and the men finished ninth out of 14. Carthage College won the women's competition and Wheaton College finished first in the men's.

Sophomore Ryann Freeman (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) was the first Forester female to finish the 6-kilometer course. She placed 37th out of 160 runners with a time of 25:59. Classmate Brecklind Golovich-Keie (East Jordan, Mich./Charlevoix) was next on the team in 72nd place with a time of 27:27. Freshman Kayla Ahlstrand (Grayslake, Ill./Grayslake Central) finished 80th in 28:12 and senior Sarah Marrinan (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Cathedral) was the next runner to cross the line 15 seconds later. Junior Stella Suhayda (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) completed the team's top five in 97th place with a time of 29:26.

The Lake Forest men's team was led for the third time in as many meets by freshman Kelsey Small (Wallingford, Conn./Notre Dame), who completed the 8-kilometer course in 28:51 and in 45th place. Senior Andrew Hutchinson (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia) was 57th in 29:24 and junior Tom Plonowski (Gurnee, Ill./Warren) followed him across the line just seven seconds later. Freshman Peter Sullivan (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) placed 60th in 29:34 and sophomore Gilbert Reynders (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade College Prep) was 78th in 30:25.

The Foresters will travel to Mequon, Wisconsin, next Saturday (September 20) for the Concordia University Wisconsin Invitational. The meets will begin at 11:00 a.m.
