Men place eight, women 13th

Dan Hankosky led the men for the second straight week.
MEQUON, WI - The Forester cross country teams competed in the 20-team Concordia University (WI) Invitational Saturday (September 13). Lake Forest's men placed eighth in the meet while the women finished in 13th place. Heavy rain throughout the day and a crowded course slowed the times considerably.

Carthage College (40 points) won the women's race with Midwest Conference foes St. Norbert College (96), Lawrence University (126), and Ripon College (152) placing second through fourth, respectively. With 333, the Foresters were just 11 points away from placing in the top ten.

Freshman Katie Snowden (Toronto, ON/York Mills Collegiate Institution) was the team's top runner for the second straight week. She completed the 5-kilometer course in 20:34 and placed 11th out of 189 competitors. Freshmen Estafania Luna (Highwood, IL/Highland Park) and Liz Martinez (Chicago, IL/Cristo Rey Jesuit) finished 60th and 99th, respectively, and sophomores Catherine Norton (South Boston, MA/Phillips Andover Academy) and Genia Lindsey (Albuquerque, NM/Sandia) rounded out the Foresters' top five in 112th and 116th.

UW-Parkside won the men's race with 34 points and Carthage was second with 62. St. Norbert placed third (124) and Concordia University (IL) was fourth (165). Lake Forest (227) finished just four points behind fellow MWC schools Knox College and Ripon College, who tied for sixth.

The Forester men were also led by a freshman for the second straight week. Dan Hankowsky (Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg) placed 15th out of 185 runners with an 8-kilomemter time of 28:35. Sophomore Derek Meiring (Carleton, MI/Airport Senior) moved up two spots on the team to second and placed 40th overall in 29:37. Senior Beau Llewellyn (Oro Station, ON/Eastview Secondary School) was 52nd in the race in 29:58. Junior Logan Dick (Tucson, AZ/Salpointe Catholic) and sophomore Will Pittinos (Coral Gables, FL/Palmer-Trinity) were also in the team's top five in 66th and 92nd place in the race, respectively.

Lake Forest will travel to UW-Parkside next Saturday (September 20) for the Midwest Collegiate Championship. The meet will begin at 12:00 p.m. and the women will run first.
