Foresters Face Stiff Competition at Midwest Collegiate Championship
Winklepleck and Meiring lead Lake Forest

Senior Kat McCauley ran the best race of her college career.
KENOSHA, WI - The Lake Forest College cross country team faced some of the best teams in the country Saturday (September 21) at the Midwest Collegiate Championship, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The men's team placed 22nd out of 31 complete teams while the women finished 24th. The winner of the men's race was UW-Oshkosh while Northern Michigan University took first in the women's race.

Freshman Derek Meiring (Carleton, MI/Airport Senior) was the Foresters' top male finisher for the third straight race. He completed the extremely hilly 8-kilometer course in 28 minutes and 35 seconds, just two seconds off his time from a week ago, which was run on a completely flat course.

The rest of the top five for Lake Forest ran nearly identical times as last week as well. Senior Eric Crawley (Braintree, MA/Thayer) lost just six seconds to 29:35. Sophomore Logan Dick (Tucson, AZ/Salpointe Catholic) fell just five seconds to 30:17. Finally, junior Beau Llewellyn (Oro Station, ON/Eastview Secondary School) and senior Rob Bahde (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield) each dropped just four seconds to 30:56 and 31:41, respectively.

The team's top runner in the women's 5-kilometer race was junior Lee Winklepleck (Shaker Heights, OH/Hathaway Brown) with a time of 22:31. She is the third top female runner in as many weeks for the Foresters.

Lake Forest's fastest woman each of the first two meets and the squad's number two runner on Saturday was senior Erin Motzer (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville), who finished just 15 seconds behind Winklepleck at 22:46. Freshman Elisabeth Lewis (Bala Cynwyd, PA/Black Forest Academy) was the third Forester at 23:11. Freshman Genia Lindsey (Albuquerque, NM/Sandia) and senior Kat McCauley (Golden Valley, MN/St. John's) rounded out the top five with career-best times of 23:45 and 24:20, respectively.

After a weekend away from racing, Lake Forest will toe the line again on Saturday, October 5, at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational in Chicago, Illinois. The meet will begin at 11:00 a.m.
