Motzer and Evans Lead the Way Again at Les Duke Invitational

Charles Evans now has four times among the top 20 at LFC.
GRINNELL, IA - The highly competitive Les Duke Invitational proved to be just that on Saturday (September 22nd) for the Forester cross country teams. The women placed 12th in the meet and the men finished in 9th place.

Junior Erin Motzer (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) was the top runner for the women's team for the second time in two meets this season. She completed the 5-kilometer course in 22:03 and finished in 88th place. Freshman Olga Michaylov (Chicago, IL/Stevenson) was the next Lake Forest runner, followed by sophomore Lee Winklepleck (Shaker Heights, OH/Hathaway Brown), who was running in her first collegiate race.

The women's team champion was Luther College with 31 points. Carleton College was next with 46 and Gustavus Adolphus College placed third with 67 points. The Foresters ended up with 336 points.

In the men's 8-kilometer race, senior Charles Evans (Asheville, NC/Carolina Day School) was the top Forester for the second time this season and the fifth time in the last two seasons. He finished in 41st place with a time of 28:42, the 17th-fastest time in the program's seven-year history. He also has three other times in the top 20. Junior Eric Crawley (Braintree, MA/Thayer) and senior Joe Zemaitis (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) also finished under 30 minutes with times of 29:37 and 29:55, respectively.

The men's team finished with 256 points. The team champion was Carleton College, who had just 44 points. Host Grinnell College was second with 52 points and Luther College finished third with 70.

Lake Forest will run next Saturday (September 29th) at the Beloit Old English Classic. The women's race will begin at 11:00 am and the men will follow at noon. The course will feature hay bales and logs to jump over as well as two river crossings.
