Lake Forest Hosts Ninth Annual Forester Invitational
Men place six, women seventh in 12-team field

VERNON HILLS, Ill. - The Half Day and Wright Woods Forest Preserves were the site of the ninth annual Forester Invitational Cross Country Meet on Saturday (September 22). Lake Forest’s men placed sixth and the women seventh in the 12-team field. Illinois Institute of Technology won the women’s team competition and the University of Chicago claimed the men’s title.

For the fourth time in as many races, sophomore Grace Schlafly (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) was the Foresters’ top female finisher, placing 35th overall and completing the 5-kilometer course in 21:19. Freshman Brecklind Golovich-Keie (East Jordan, Mich./Charlevoix) was next on the squad in 45th place with a time of 21:37 and classmate Ryan Freeman (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) finished just five places and 11 seconds later. Junior Sarah Marrinan (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Cathedral) placed 63rd in 22:48 and junior Synneve Yoder (Murray, Neb./Conestoga) rounded out the team’s top five in 87th place with a time of 24:22.

Freshman Kahiye Hassan (Portland, Maine/Waynflete School) continued to lead the men’s team. He finished the 8-kilometer course in fifth place with a time of 26:52, the sixth-fastest mark in team history. Sophomore John Thies (Los Angeles, Calif./Saint Francis) was the Foresters’ second runner in 35th place with a time of 28:44. Junior Andrew Hutchinson (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia) placed 46th in 29:24 and classmate Levi Paul (Austin, Minn./Governor Dummer) finished just three places and seconds later. Freshman Michael Frederick (Winnetka, Ill./Roycemore School) was the squad’s fifth and final scorer in 75th place with a time of 30:42.

The Foresters will compete in Loyola University Chicago’s Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational next Saturday (September 29).
