Foresters Compete at Cross Country Only National Championship
Men place third, women fourth among non-Division I teams

EDWARDSVILLE, IL - The Forester cross country teams traveled to Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Saturday (September 25) for the Cross Country Only National Championship Meet. Eleven schools that do not sponsor track and field participated, and Lake Forest’s men placed third and women fourth among the non-Division I teams.

It was the first 6-kilometer race of the season for the Forester women. Sophomore Katie Snowden (Toronto, ON/York Mills Collegiate Institution) finished 28th overall in the 86-runner field with a time of 24:28. Sophomore Liz Martinez (Chicago, IL/Cristo Rey Jesuit) placed 39th in 25:01. Freshman Elisa Luna (Highwood, IL/Highland Park) was 62nd in 26:55 and led a pack of four Foresters. Sophomore Leann Kimmons (Centennial, CO/Eaglecrest) and freshmen Jessica Dock (West Bend, WI/West Bend West) and Laura Desjarlais (Nashua, NH/Derryfield) were all within 32 seconds and 5 places of Luna.

On the men’s side, sophomore Dan Hankosky (Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg) completed the 8-kilometer course in 27:23 and in 21st place. Freshman Humberto Palmerin (Highwood, IL/Highland Park) finished 39th in 28:09. Junior Derek Meiring (Carleton, MI/Airport Senior) placed 70th out of 94 total runners in 29:46. Senior Logan Dick (Tucson, AZ/Salpointe Catholic) and junior Will Pittinos (Coral Gables, FL/Palmer-Trinity) rounded out the team’s top five.

Lake Forest will compete in the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational, hosted by Loyola University Chicago, next Saturday (October 2). The women’s race will start at 10:00 a.m. and the men will begin at 12:00 p.m.
